Josh Sawyer would head up a new Fallout game if Microsoft asked, but he’d have to do it his way- ‘Who wants to work on something where the one thing they want to explore is not possible to explore-‘-

Fallout: New Vegas holds kind of a weird spot in the Fallout canon. It’s widely regarded as the best of the Bethesda-era Fallouts (although personally, I preferred Fallout 3) and it’s also viewed by many as sort of a red-headed stepchild: No matter how many times Todd Howard insistently denies it, there’s a lingering sense among some fans that Bethesda—which did not actually make New Vegas—would like to bury it.

With all that in mind, not to mention that both Obsidian and Bethesda are now Microsoft studios, it’s not surprising that expressions of hope for a new Obsidian-made Fallout occasionally bubble to the surface. But would Josh Sawyer, the project coordinator, lead designer, and system designer of New Vegas, have an interest in leading the project? Well… sure. W…

Lords of the Fallen now has one of those masochistic enemy randomizer modes for action RPG fans looking for punishment-

Lords of the Fallen’s final update, version 1.5, gives it what every good action RPG must have: a randomizer mode for the sickos who thrive in the chaos of unpredictable enemies and loot.

A list of new options to modify the normal structure of the game will now be available when you’ve completed it. You can randomize the loot dropped by enemies and the types of enemies that show up. Other options include pre-upgraded loot drops, weaker healing, more enemies, permadeath, and fewer (or zero) of the game’s Dark Souls bonfire-like checkpoints, or “Vestiges”.

In our Lords of the Fallen review, Harvey wasn’t a fan of its brutal mid-to-late game enemy ambushes, which he said “occasionally feel downright cruel.” In the roadmap of updates since its release last October, however, deve…

No Starfield- No problem! Turn Mass Effect into the first-person space RPG of your dreams with this mod-

Mass Effect, as we all know, has always hungered in its secret heart to become a twitchy first-person shooter. To cast aside the aged moniker of “RPG”, whatever that means, and to transform into the helter-skelter, thrill-a-minute Call of Duty-like it was always meant to be.

Well, some dreams cannot be denied. Thanks to the ongoing MassFPS mod series, you can now transform two thirds of the Mass Effect Legendary Edition into a first-person cover shooter. Okay, I admit they’re still very much Mass Effect games, so it’s probably a bit more like turning them into proto-Starfield rather than COD, but I still find myself rather impressed by how well these things work.

Created by a modder named Aphar, the MassFPS mod got its most recent release—for ME2—at the beginning…

Nightdive says Dark Forces has been ‘difficult to change’ because LucasArts created its own version of multi-threading years before it became popular-

Star Wars: Dark Forces is the latest nineties’ PC gaming classic to receive an overhaul from remastering maestros Nightdive Studios. But as this month’s PC Gamer magazine reveals, LucasArts’ shooter has proved unusually challenging from a technical perspective. Speaking to PCG’s print editor Robert Jones, Nightdive’s project lead on Dark Forces explains the game features a homebrew equivalent to modern multi-threading that was years ahead of its time.

“Dark Forces has been difficult to change, from the technical end of things, because it is very heavily over-designed,” says Max Waine. “There were a lot of small details in how LucasArts did things at the time that made stuff particularly difficult.” One of these things was the aforementioned multi-threading solution. “They managed …

Slay some demons with the power of rock in Power Chord’s full release-

Delightfully-themed Demonic Deckbuilder Power Chord has unleashed its mightiest lineups, arriving out of Early Access and into a full release. In Power Chord you “Assemble Earth’s mightiest musicians, each with their own unique cards and gear, to fight your way through the hordes and destroy the only guitar powerful enough to reopen the scratch between worlds.”

We first got a look at the uniquely-themed Power Chord in late 2021, when a demo first showed off its stylish aesthetics and explosively metal sounds. It stood out from the pack at the time because it was so clearly trying to do something new and interesting that others in the genre weren’t. It combines multiple characters, but isn’t purely class-based.

For those who want some variety to their roguelike deckbuilding, …

RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 track takes longer to complete than the universe will exist-

Theme park management sim and vomit-soaked hellscape creation tool RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 has played host to some real horrorshows. Streamer Marcel Vos is responsible for many of them, having built record-setting tracks like the nightmarish one that takes 12 real years to complete. His latest work puts that in perspective: it takes over three quinvigintillion years to complete. A quinvigintillion is a one with 78 zeros after it.

Vos calls it the Universe Coaster, and it’s not exactly a thrill a minute. As his 14-minute video explains, via Kotaku, it begins with a looping coaster that runs along a long, spiral track at a speed of about a kilometer per hour. The track ends in nothing, though there is a decorative skeleton in a top hat, but the coaster doesn’t crash at this dead end.…
